Pathetic response to the previous post. I wouldn't hire any of you.

To the person who keeps asking for a smaller comment font size: tell me how. I will make it smaller, but I don't know how. You tell me how and I will. Also, if I knew how to ban commenters, you would be first on my list. Just thought you might want to know.

To 10:35 AM: "I'll work my self up to partner through shear hard work." Are you a gardener? Shear hard work? Come on.

To 2:08 PM: Maybe you think you're not "expected to bill more than 1900 a year" but the associates striving for partner sure are. We tell associates here there's no hours requirement. We don't mean it. No one means it. The hardest workers get the most respect. And the least respect. But the ones billing 1900 aren't getting the good cases, and won't be on the right track for their careers. They're our wage slaves. We need wage slaves. But they're replaceable. And you don't want to be replaceable.

To 1:08 PM: I don't care if you go to Harvard. There are lots of morons at Harvard. True, your chances of an offer if you interview here are higher than they are from most other schools, but it doesn't mean I want to work with you. Harvard is one of the least enjoyable places to interview students every year. Partly because it comes so late in the process that I'm tired of talking to people. But partly because of people like you who think they're entitled to an offer just because they go to Harvard. I didn't go to Harvard, and I did okay. Although the chocolate covered pretzels in the Charles Hotel hospitality suites are unusually good for hotel food.

To the people who sent me resumes via e-mail: Thanks. I'll save them for when we're looking for paralegals.

Comments:
You'd like to ban me? No problem I can arrange that. I'm bored with this anyway. There are lots of other places to play around, and God knows, whether fiction or not, you have become increasingly tedious. As far the point size, crank up some of that long dormant intellectual curiousity.

Oh, and far as position at your middlin' firm? Open a vein, it's quicker. Poof, you're a lawyer!

You obviously are not tired of this posting since you comment at least once every time a new one is up.

LD, don't leave!

AL, you missed your chance. When you come trying to woo me to make big bucks for you, remember that I like the Macallan (18 years or older).

I'm a Harvard student (but not the one that commented yesterday). As far as how "real" AL is I don't know or really care. But the chocolate pretzels at the Charles comment shows that whoever he is, he knows an awful lot of details about the recruiting process. The pretzels at the Charles are very good, in fact, most students here rave about them specifically. AL has done some recruiting here at Harvard, or at least knows a surprising amount about those who have.

Worth also noting that in late September AL had a post in which he said that he was flying back east to one of the few schools that his firm recruits at out here. Latham did interview here that week, although so did many many other firms. I guess that keeps the speculation going though

"To the people who sent me resumes via e-mail: Thanks. I'll save them for when we're looking for paralegals."

Yeah, you have paralegals with law degrees.

1:32- what do you think the graduates of crappy law schools do? Practice law? HA!

Besides, being a paralegal isn't a bad gig- it's certainly better than being a contract attorney, because at least paralegals get overtime.

LD: Speaking of tedious...

1:50 PM

Get a clue.

"[But the chocolate pretzels at the Charles comment shows that whoever he is, he knows an awful lot of details about the recruiting process. AL has done some recruiting here at Harvard.]"

I think you are an idiot. This is the result of your over paid legal education? You are ready to draw a conclusion that AL has recruited at Harvard based on information about pretzels? Do you think whoever AL is could have picked that up from the real recruiting partner at Anonymous BIGLAW?

He could have overheard a conversation for all we know, or read a review online, or read another Blog and pick up the info there.

I weep for the future.

How's this for a reason you should hire me: because I already have a job. But of course, that means I'm not looking for one.

Let's face it - any law student who doesn't have a job lined up for next summer is a waste of good oxygen.

Twenty-five-year-old law school graduates who never worked a day in their life at a real job and think they know everything really piss me off. Love the blog.

1:31 here responding to 6:26.

You quote me saying that "AL has done some recruiting here" but you conveniently fail to quote my entire sentence. The rest of the sentence says "or at least he knows a surprising amount about those who have." The full quotation shows that I realized the possibilities you mentioned, that some friend could have raved about the pretzels or that he read about it on some post somewhere. However, this would surprise to me. AL's comment struck me as coming from someone who is familiar with the Harvard recruiting process, and thus I would be "surprised" if he got his (or her) knowledge some other way. Perhaps you disagree, but this is a fairly subjective reading of the situation based on my own gut reaction to AL's comments.

I also did not even suggest that this shows that AL is a recruiting partner, only that he has probably done some recruiting here. Most of the actual interviewing is done by associates, often fairly junior ones, (3rd or 4th years.) For all I know AL is really the recruiting secretary, all that I am saying is, that from my perspective, it seems logical to believe that AL is someone actually involved with BIGLAW recruiting. The fact that he also correctly noted that Harvard recruiting is much later than other schools also leads me to believe that AL is (or was) a lawyer at a BIGLAW firm, and probably one who at least dabbled in recruiting. This seems to be too much detail and knowledge to come from a paralegal or secretary.

I understand that you want to jump toward bashing Harvard students as quickly as possible, and I will whole-heartily agree that too many Harvard students have an arrogant and foolish worldview that fails to acknowledge that many many brilliant people go to other law schools. However, I was merely pointing out to those who might not know otherwise that AL's "pretzel comment" was at very least accurate and showed more than an active imagination. If you cannot understand that, then well, I must say that I "weep for the present".

"As for AL---try using a word that actually exists. When one offers comments, he or she is not a commenter. That person is referred to as a commentator. Nice job jerk off.

"P.S. before all you people jump in and say commenter is a word, trying using something other than spell check to prove me wrong. Try looking it up in the dictionary."

For all the L&W talk I prefer to think of AL as a Jones Day type: Good enough to be pissed that he's taking orders from some Republican in Ohio.

Hi AL! Hello, naysayers! AL, if you want to change to a smaller font size, try this.

From the blogger dashboard, click "Change settings" and then click on the "Template" tag.

In the template, look for this:

.blogComments{padding:0px;color:#9E5205;font-size:110%;font-weight:bold;font-family:Verdana,Sans-Serif;}
.blogComment{margin-top:10px;font-size:100%;font-weight:normal;color:black;}
And replace it with this:

.blogComments{padding:0px;color:#9E5205;font-size:100%;font-weight:bold;font-family:Verdana,Sans-Serif;}
.blogComment{margin-top:10px;font-size:75%;font-weight:normal;color:black;}

(The only thing different here is the font size -- 110% changed to 100% in the first line, 100% changed to 75% in the second line.)

I think AL is back!

AL, I’m a little late as to why you should hire me. Sadly I forget to check your blog more than once a week. I’ve accepted my 2L offer for next year (who knows, maybe its at your firm).

I don’t do that good of work and I don’t pay particular attention to detail, but I have a three handicap, I’m fun to get drunk with (or at least I have fun when I’m drunk), and I’m not pretentious enough to even know what the hell “la depressionada” is suppose to mean.

Also, as for font size, why should AL change? How about you quit being a jackass and adjust the size of the font on your computer. Go to “view” and if you’re still having trouble after that, well, then you suck.

I cannot believe how much "la depressionada" sucks. I agree with 1:10 PM's point, and think she should get over her holier-than-thou bullshit or stop reading the damned blog. Anonymous Lawyer is a fun read, regardless of whether or not it's real. La depressionada's repetitive, sanctimonious posts do not make her seem smart, they make her seem boring and unimaginative. Criticism has its place and its purpose, but we would all be better off if la depressionada would just shut up until she actually had something new to say.

AL,

This guy is pathetic ... To the person who keeps asking for a smaller comment font size,

When you come to visit AL's web page, hold down your control key (crtl) and hit the + or - button at the same time, and your print will get smaller.

- just a geekette

to whomever keeps using the phrase "jumped the shark":
please stop. wherever you are from, please know that that is not a saying here in the US. no one here knows what the hell you're talking about.

I'm not the one who keeps using "jump the shark," but sorry, 3:12, you're just pop culture deficient. It most definitely IS a U.S. phrase. See http://jumptheshark.com/

Well, fine, but it's still a stupid phrase.

You Harvard kids keep the sterotype going don't you? Glad I at a different Ivy Leauge law school.

"Glad I at a different Ivy Leauge law school."

Is you?

Man! The grammar and typos on this blog.... Did our poor little lawyer friends forget to have their secretaries proofread their posts?

I agree with the previous person, please don't leave LD! You bring balance to the force.

AL: Out of curiousity, do you have any links you'd recommend? Or do you mean we should e-mail you for the links? Cheers.

AL is more frictional than he is fictional. Hardy har har.

Piss off LD.

LD don't go! You are as cool as AL.

Why would AL refer to me by the time I posted when I was kind enough to leave my name?

The fact of the matter is, no HLS student would ever be desperate enough to beg for a job on an anonymous Web Blog. That’s for those of you who go to lower ranked schools. Firms like the one AL works come begging us to grace them with our presence.

Well son, you don't seem too smart to me. Looks you like been goin' to the wrong classes. The divinity school is across the way.

"True, your chances of an offer if you interview here are higher than they are from most other schools, but it doesn't mean I want to work with you. Harvard is one of the least enjoyable places to interview students every year. Partly because it comes so late in the process that I'm tired of talking to people. But partly because of people like you who think they're entitled to an offer just because they go to Harvard."

Spoken like a guy who couldn't get into Harvard. It's ok, AL, lots of people couldn't.

to the guy in the post before me. you obviously can't analyze anyone worth crap. AL's not jealous, he's realistic. a lot of people go to great schools and they can't even operate in the real world once they get there. they've got the game of school down, but the game of work's a whole new ballgame. and if you come into it with a cocky attitude you'll get your head chopped off no matter how smart you are. besides, no one likes working with an asshole and heaven knows that's the reputation (but not necessarily the truth) of people coming out of Harvard.

and to anyone who wants to bash my non-capitalization. try using AIM sometime. it's quick, efficient, and realistic. 'nuff said.
